X. My friend

My friend Venkataramana Iyer.

This gentleman was a close friend of mine and as family we were good friends. He was a neat and artistic person. He always wore mull jubbas and panche which he wore very neatly. He was truly a gentleman.

He was in charge of the palace Devaramane. Once somebody stole a big gold lamp. Since he was responsible for padlocking and sealing the door, he was found responsible. However, the pooja room had another door and somebody else came from that room and pinched the lamp. He was taken to police custody, I suspect he was not treated properly, and after he was released, he out of sheer disgust and unfairness, and loss of his own self-respect, and treatment he was meted out his health deteriorated and died.

His wife Sumitramma, on hearing her daughter gave birth just died out of shock. They had five children. One Venkatesha, Ratna, and others whose names I forget.

He was a close fried, Used to visit us daily in the evenings. He played lots of pranks. Accompanied us on some trips.
