VII. Marriage

My marriage took place after obtaining my B.A degree. My marriage took place in April of 1930. I took a loan of Rs 800 from Sira cooperative society. All my family was present for the marriage. My father-in-law had arranged for a whole house to be at the disposal of our wedding party. It was a five-day marriage. The marriage took place in 8,Bharati Bhavanam, Chamarajapet, Bangalore.

For the varapooje, there was a ‘coach gaadi meravanige’.A photograph of my family after the wedding was taken in front of the Rameshwara temple in front of my father in law’s house. It shows all my six brothers and their wives,my wife and I, my father and mother, my sister Parvatamma. It does not show my sister Gangamma.

My wife and I started out wedded life in 1932. My first house was a sublet rented place in College road, Mysore. Subsequently, Satyanarayana of Mysore bank, a friend of my sons, lived in the same house during 1950’s. Srinkanta shastry found a more convenient place with a new separate house at Rajaraama agrahhara. Rajarama agrahaara was a nice set of about 30 houses in a U shape. We stayed there from 1933 to 1939 until I built my Saraswatipuram house.

We were near a swampy area and there was lot of malaria. Hence we could stay there only till 1946, at which time we rented the house and moved to 573, College road. The Saraswatipuram house had to be sold in 1954, to help my mother in law.
